Description

The Brazil Grand Prix, group 1 is a 1 ½ mile race on turf for 4-year-old or older horses and the major race in the international week of the Jockey Club Brasileiro, in Rio de Janeiro.
Quatro Mares, a classic winner and second at the Derby, was one of the best in the race, rivaling with L’Amico Steve, winner of two classic races on turf, and His Friend, which came in 2nd in this race in the previous year.
The GP Brasil was fast-paced. Top Hat and Quanta Classe – the only mare in the race – had the lead after the start and kept it until the beginning of the final stretch.
In the last 400 meters, Quatro Mares, on the outside, and Tango di Gardel, His Friend and L’Amico Steve, closed in. In the end, L’Amico Steve opened up a half-length over Tango di Gardel, setting the new record for the most important horse race in Brazil. His Friend finished in third.
L’Amico Steve is the son of Spend A Buck and All for Love, was bred by Haras Old Friends and is owed by Stud Star Gold.
